In this paper we present a method for multidisciplinary optimization of struc- tures including qualitative knowledge and fuzzy constraints. In addition to multiobjective and discrete tasks, which are solved with the genetic algorithm GAME, mainly expert knowledge and experience is available for certain in uences to complete the optimization task in early design stages. To handle such information fuzzy rule based systems are in- troduced. The fuzzy rule based approach to modelling is based on verbally formulated rules overlapped throughout the parameter space to handle complex non-linear relationships. The optimization of a reinforced metal profile displays the effectiveness of the method for manufacturing in uences.
