Within this work the shape optimization of extrusion dies based on evolutionary algorithms is presented. Based on an APDL programming the model set up of a simplified 2D-Finite-Element model is described. This model was optimized as well regarding the prevention of dead zone where the material flow is extremely slow as on homogenized exit speeds to prevent extruding a curved profile.
The optimization strategies are presented and studied on different die types.
As a result it was possible to influence the material flow by eliminating flow in specific elements by changing the materials properties from flowing to rigid to control exiting speed and zero-velocity regions.
